John Crothers, 62, of Ballymena, County Antrim, is charged with cutting the fuel pump switch, fan switch, three rev limiter wires and safety switch from the Ford Escort of rally driver Richard Hall at Ballyraine, Letterkenny, on 18 June 2022, before the Donegal International Rally. Crothers was arrested the same day and faces three charges including criminal damage, a threat to damage property, and interfering with the mechanism of a stationary vehicle. The case was adjourned at Letterkenny District Court for Garda forensics to examine a snips device allegedly used in the cutting. The DPP has directed that Crothers stand trial before a judge and jury at Letterkenny Circuit Court, with the matter adjourned to 25 September 2023 to allow a book of evidence to be prepared for the October sittings.
