In the early hours of 26 March 2022, man John Murphy Jnr, 43, stabbed his brother Shane Murphy, 27, to death and his father Weeshie Murphy, 75, at their home on Seaview Avenue, Carrigaline, Co Cork. He was arrested the same day and charged with murder and attempted murder on 28 March 2022. At trial at the Central Criminal Court in Cork in April 2024, a jury found him not guilty by reason of insanity on all charges. He was ordered to be detained at the Central Mental Hospital on 7 May 2024.
