John Alex Kane, a man aged 48 (reports also give 50), of Cartron, Granard, Co Longford, pleaded guilty in January 2023 to three counts of possession of stolen property relating to a New Holland TM155 tractor, a John Deere 6220 tractor and a UK-registered Toyota Hilux jeep, and to one count of deception for inducing a man to buy a stolen John Deere 6620 tractor for €25,000. The offences occurred between January and April 2018 in Rathcronan, Granard, and the case was adjourned for sentencing with Kane remanded on continuing bail. In July 2024, Judge Kenneth Connolly at Longford Circuit Court sentenced him to two years and four months with the final nine months suspended. Kane had been released from jail in March 2022 after serving a two-month sentence for breaches of court orders linked to a €4.9 million Revenue judgment from 2009.

John Alex Kane, 47, a car dealer from Granard, Co Longford, his wife Lucy Pinfold, 43, and his brother Seamus Kane, 52, were charged in February 2022 with obtaining Pandemic Unemployment Payment from the State by deception, having claimed to be employees of a company that had dissolved two years earlier. The three pleaded not guilty at Longford District Court in September 2022, with the DPP treating each case separately. In February 2023, Alex Kane was convicted of three counts of PUP fraud totalling €2,653 and fined €250 on each count. The cases of Pinfold and Seamus Kane remain pending.

John Alex Kane, 47, a car dealer from Granard, Co Longford, was found in contempt of court orders not to intimidate or frustrate the work of receiver Myles Kirby, who has been attempting to sell 14 properties to satisfy a €4.9m tax judgment from 2009. Kirby claims Kane tried to intimidate prospective buyers and engaged in criminal damage, arson, and attempts to poison animal feed and milk, allegations Kane denies. Kane failed to appear at the High Court contempt hearing in November 2021, and Justice O'Regan ordered him committed to prison for two months in his absence. On 23 December 2021, Justice O'Moore put a temporary stay on the sentence, with Kane giving a sworn undertaking not to leave the jurisdiction, and the matter was adjourned to 10 January 2022.
