Johan Monzon (35), a Venezuelan man, became ill with severe seizures on a flight from Spain on 20 May 2025, and the flight was diverted to Dublin Airport. At Beaumont Hospital it emerged that he had swallowed 48 cocaine pellets, one of which had ruptured, and he had medical complications before his release on 1 July 2025. He was then arrested and charged, and he pleaded guilty at Dublin District Court to possession of cocaine for sale or supply. At a sentencing hearing at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, reported on 13 November 2025, he was given a two-year prison sentence backdated to 1 July 2025.
