Joe Doyle, 45, of Queen Street, Dublin, and another man with covered faces pushed into a 76-year-old woman's flat in Dublin city centre, attacked her and a second woman in her 40s, and took €70 in cash. Doyle, a former boxer with 111 previous convictions who was in the throes of crack cocaine addiction at the time, entered pleas to aggravated burglary and two charges of assault causing harm on January 12, 2023. On October 20, 2026, Judge Martin Nolan sentenced him to 10 years, a headline sentence of 12 years reduced to date from December 2023 when a separate five-year robbery term was imposed.

Gardaí raided premises at Richmond Court, Longford, almost 12 months before May 2023, seizing approximately €7,300 in cash and bags of suspected cannabis and cocaine. The State failed to prove the suspected drugs were illegal, and concerns were raised over the validity of the search warrant used. Judge John Brennan at Athlone District Court ordered the return of over €7,000 on an application by Joe Doyle, Darren Doyle and Joe Mears. Joe Doyle had died since the matter was first listed, and Joe Mears had separately pleaded guilty to possession of drugs for sale or supply at Navan in 2017.
