  Two incidents took place in the Ferrybank area of Waterford on 24 and 25 October 2023, in which a man was assaulted over a drugs debt and a woman was driven around the area against her will. Three men, Mariusz Mikarej, Kevin Botezatu and Joao Pedro Correia O'Shea, were arrested and questioned by Gardaí. All three pleaded guilty to demanding money with menace and other offences at Kilkenny Circuit Court. In December 2024, Judge Jonathan Dunphy sentenced them to concurrent terms, with Mikarej receiving the heaviest sentence of three years and four months for demanding money with menace.
