João Henrique Ferreira, a 24-year-old Brazilian delivery driver, had his right leg severed when struck by a Garda vehicle on a slip road at Junction 11 north of the M50 in Tallaght, Dublin, on 28 October 2023 while assisting friends in locating a stolen bicycle. Following a probe by Fiosrú, the police ombudsman, criminal proceedings commenced against Garda Neil Doyle of Dundrum station on a charge of careless driving causing serious bodily harm. Doyle was first summonsed to Dublin District Court on 8 May 2025, entered a not-guilty plea on 25 September 2025, and was sent for trial on 12 January 2026, when he was remanded on bail and the case was listed for mention on 13 March at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
