latest first- Accidental death verdict at inquest into road traffic death in Cork Death (road traffic incident) · Co. Cork
Jimmy Horgan, a 13-year-old first-year student at Presentation Brothers College, was hit by a truck driven by Niall Murphy while crossing the road at Prospect Row in Cork city centre at about 3.30pm on 17 November 2020. He had just left school and was crossing to meet his grandfather when the collision occurred. The pathologist stated he died of poly trauma and blunt force trauma injuries consistent with a road traffic accident. At an inquest in February 2022, a jury recorded a verdict of accidental death and asked Cork City Council to review traffic arrangements in the area. The Horgan family said they bore no ill will towards the driver and raised over €80,000 for Mercy University Hospital.
