Between May and August 2002, a 12-year-old boy was sexually assaulted at Kevin Brazil's flat in Dublin city after Jim Fitzsimons used promises of a job to entice him there. Both men plied the boy with alcohol before molesting him, and Fitzsimons gave him cash on various occasions. The boy reported the abuse to his father in 2002, but the investigating garda did not send the file to the DPP; he came forward again in 2016, when Superintendent Barry Walsh discovered the earlier complaints while investigating Brazil from a different victim. Brazil, 52, was jailed the previous year after pleading guilty to sexual assault of the same child. Fitzsimons, 60, pleaded not guilty to three counts of sexual assault and was convicted by a jury at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on 10 October 2022, receiving a 30-month sentence.
