• Doctor pays €1,000 to charity over knife and intoxication case at Tullamore hotel Intoxication in a public place and possession of a knife with a blade or sharp point · Co. Offaly

Jerome White, a medical doctor with the HSE, was charged with intoxication in a public place and possession of a knife with a blade or sharp point over an incident on 25 November 2023 at Tullamore Court Hotel, O'Moore Street, Tullamore, Co Offaly, after other users of the leisure centre alerted management, who contacted Gardaí. At Tullamore Court in October 2024 he pleaded guilty to both offences; the judge remanded him on continuing bail, ordered a destruction order on the knife and asked for a €1,000 payment to Brain Tumour Ireland. His solicitor said the knife had fallen out of his bag while he was changing and that there was no nefarious intent. A report published on 16 December 2024 said the payment had been made but Mr White was not in court, and the judge adjourned finalisation to 18 December 2024, saying he would strike out the case if the payment was made.
