  Ciaran Burke, a man from Drumduff, Mountcharles, County Donegal, was charged in 2022 with false imprisonment of Jennifer Sweeney, dangerous driving, and threatening to kill Garda Jim Connolly, all allegedly arising from an incident on 18 December 2021. He was first brought before Donegal District Court in February 2022 on charges of assaulting a garda, producing a chain, and threatening to kill the garda, with additional charges of false imprisonment, theft, criminal damage, and three counts of dangerous driving added in March 2022. He was sent forward for trial to Donegal Circuit Court in May 2022. In April 2025, Burke pleaded guilty to three charges at Donegal Circuit Court in Letterkenny, and Judge John Aylmer ordered a probation report before adjourning sentencing to the next session.
