  Jeffrey Carter, a 33-year-old man, was sentenced on 4 December 2025 to two years and nine months in prison to run consecutively and a six-year driving ban after pleading guilty to dangerous driving, criminal damage and creating a substantial risk of death or serious harm. On 18 May 2024, Carter drove a car with four passengers at speed through red lights, the wrong way in bus lanes and against other drivers during a high-speed Garda pursuit around Sutton and Darndale in Dublin. He rammed an unmarked Garda patrol car, then a second Garda car three times, and drove through Dart crash barriers at Sutton Cross seconds before a train was due to cross the junction. Carter, who was already banned from driving and has a long record of convictions, was arrested after the chase ended in a built-up housing estate. The incident caused more than €18,500 in damage to the Dart barriers and €19,000 in damage to Garda vehicles.
