    Jason Platt, a man from England aged 52 or 53 (reports differ) and a former chef, was arrested at Dublin Airport in September 2024 by the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau over alleged attempted deception after losing a €2.3m compensation claim over a February 2009 fall at the Old Bank House Hotel in Kinsale, Co Cork. He faces eight alleged offences (one report says seven) committed between August 2010 and June 2015, including attempted deception of Aviva, and was granted bail at Dublin District Court and remanded to 16 December. On 10 March 2025 he was served with a book of evidence, the DPP directed trial on indictment, and Judge Michele Finan sent the case to the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, listed for 1 May, and he has still to enter a plea.
