Jason Molyneux was shot up to 13 times at close range at around 9pm on 30 January 2018 in County Dublin, after attending the wake of a friend earlier that day. Gardaí believe the killing was directly related to the murder of David Byrne, and several arrests were made in relation to it. No charges had been brought, and a file on the case had been sent to the DPP. In February 2024 an inquest heard that the state pathologist recorded 13 entry wounds and that he died from multiple gunshot injuries, and the jury returned a verdict of unlawful killing by person or persons unknown.
