Jason McLaughlin of Cashel, Gleneely, Co Donegal, who was 16 at the time, pleaded guilty to the oral rape of a 14-year-old girl at a place in Culdaff on an unknown date in January 2022. The offending came to light in July 2022 after the girl told her mother, and gardaí interviewed McLaughlin in 2023. Reported on 18 December 2025, he was sentenced at the Criminal Courts of Justice to two and a half years in prison, with the final 18 months suspended for one year, and one year of Probation Service supervision after release. The latest development is that a €10,000 token of remorse is to be paid to the injured party in January 2026.
