On 2 August 2021, Jason McCourtney, a 20-year-old man, was detected driving at 136 km/h in an 80 km/h zone on Fr Mullen Drive, Daingean, Offaly. He was a learner driver driving unaccompanied without L plates, had no motor insurance, and failed to stop when gardai deployed blue lights, overtaking a vehicle at a bend at Ballyknockan, Geashill. A separate offence saw him found with five fireworks at Arden View, Tullamore. He pleaded guilty to all matters at Offaly District Court on 30 November 2022. He was fined €300 for dangerous driving and disqualified for two years, with additional fines for the remaining charges.
