Jason Hutch, a 37-year-old Irish man described by Spanish police as a leader of the Hutch Organised Crime Group's intelligence cell, was arrested by the Guardia Civil in Tías, Lanzarote, on 8 April 2026 on foot of a European Arrest Warrant for criminal organisation. He appeared by video link before a judge in Lanzarote the following day and was remanded in custody while contesting his extradition to Ireland. The arrest was part of a GNBCI investigation into organised crime activity and links between gardaí and criminals, ongoing since 2021. Madrid's Central Investigating Court ordered his surrender to Ireland on 8 July 2026, and he has since appealed the decision to the Criminal Chamber of the National Court while remaining in custody.
