On Saturday 13 January 2024 at around 4.40pm, a man in his 30s was shot and seriously injured in the Ballinacurra Weston area of Limerick City, and gardaí say the shots were fired from an upstairs window of a home in Crecora Avenue. A man in his 40s was arrested that day, and Jason Higgins, a 44-year-old self-employed plumber of Crecora Avenue, was later charged with one count of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, with the defence saying he feared his house was about to be attacked. Higgins appeared at Limerick District Court on 15 January 2024 and was granted bail on his own €100 bond. The latest report, from 10 April 2024, says he was remanded on continuing bail to appear in June, and gardaí had not yet received directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
