Barry Moore, a 35-year-old man, was allegedly beaten, waterboarded, threatened with rape and branded with the word 'RAT' on his face and torso at a house on Sheephill Avenue, Blanchardstown, Dublin 15, on 12 February 2025. Five men - Kenneth Fitzsimons, 46, Dean Fitzsimons, 26, Jason Hennessy Jr, 29, Brandon Hennessy, 23, and Devon Hennessy, 30 - were arrested in a major Garda operation on 15 February 2025 and charged with assault causing serious harm, false imprisonment and criminal organisation offences. Devon Hennessy pleaded guilty in July 2025, while the remaining four men entered guilty pleas to assault causing harm after Moore refused to give evidence at their Special Criminal Court trial in December 2025. On 25 March 2026, the Special Criminal Court sentenced the five men to prison terms of three to 8.5 years.

  • High Court hears appeal against destruction of dangerous dogs in Dublin Destruction of dangerous dogs (Control of Dogs Act) · Co. Dublin

On 28 March 2025, four gardaí on routine patrol at Sheephill Avenue, Blanchardstown, Dublin, alleged that Veronica Maher, 54, let out her unmuzzled and unleashed XL Bully dog Odie onto the roadway, where it ran at them aggressively. Maher, the widow of Jason Hennessy who was shot dead in a gang-related attack at Browne's Steakhouse in Blanchardstown on Christmas Eve 2023, denied opening a gate to unleash the dog. The four dogs were seized on 4 April 2025, and in May 2025 Judge Halpin in Dublin District Court ordered their destruction and Maher to pay over €11,000 for their care. In December 2025 the Circuit Civil Court affirmed the destruction order for Odie, and in May 2026 Maher appealed to the High Court, where Judge Dignam reserved his ruling on the admission of the District Court transcript.
