Richard Burke, 32, is on trial at the Central Criminal Court in Monaghan for the murder of Jasmine McMonagle at Forest Park, Killygordon, Co Donegal, on January 4, 2019. He pleaded not guilty to murder but guilty to manslaughter. Burke told gardaí he went blank before punching and strangling McMonagle with a rope, and demonstrated the act to interviewing officers. The trial heard that he still held the rope when he heard gardaí knocking on the window, with a baby asleep in the sitting room and McMonagle's eight-year-old daughter calling for her.
