Gordon McKenna, 79, a man formerly of Mountmellick, Co Laois, pleaded guilty to indecently assaulting his daughter Jane Murray, 55, a woman, at the family home in Tallaght, Dublin, on mountain biking trips and at the cinema, on dates between 1977 and 1983. The abuse came to the attention of gardaí and TUSLA in 2018 after Murray applied for counselling records as an adult. McKenna, who had remarried and moved to Germany, previously denied the charges but pleaded guilty before his trial began at the Central Criminal Court. On 20 January 2026, Ms Justice Melanie Greally sentenced him to seven years in prison, comprising concurrent sentences of 16 months for earlier offences and a consecutive term of five years and eight months for later offences.
