latest first- North Louth man convicted of dangerous driving in Dundalk Dangerous driving; driving without insurance; failing to produce · Co. Louth
On 24 July 2020, Jamie McElroy, a 35-year-old man from Shortstone, Hackballscross, north Louth, was driving a black Volkswagen Golf with its lights off on the Castletown Road. He failed to stop at a Stop sign and broke a red light at the Ecco Road junction, and a Garda followed the car with lights and siren activated before McElroy stopped and held his hands up. He was arrested at 2.55am and made no reply when charges were put to him after caution at 4am. At Dundalk district court, Judge Eirinn McKiernan refused the defence's request to reduce the charge to careless driving and convicted McElroy in his absence of dangerous driving, driving without insurance, and failing to produce. A bench warrant for sentencing was issued with a special date fixed.
