  Jamie Gavigan, a 26-year-old man and member of a Dublin-based organised crime gang, travelled to a house outside Mitchelstown in North Cork with another male on 18 October 2022. He demanded €8,500 with menaces from a couple in their 60s who had no drug debt, threatening to burn down their property. The couple took photographs of the car and the man, and Gavigan was identified through his car registration; he was arrested and charged six days later and remanded in custody on 25 October 2022. He pleaded guilty to demanding money with menaces and threatening to damage property at Cork Circuit Criminal Court. On 22 February 2023 he was sentenced to three-and-a-half years' imprisonment with the final six months suspended.
