Daniel Maguire of Ballinalee, Longford, pleaded guilty at Longford Circuit Court to dangerous driving causing serious bodily harm after crashing his car on October 1, 2021, at Kilmurray, Mullinalaghta. He had been drinking excessively before the collision, which injured his cousin Ian Maguire and friend Jamie Flynn. Maguire also pleaded guilty to drink driving, driving without insurance, and driving without a licence. He was sentenced to four years and nine months in prison, with the final nine months suspended, and disqualified from driving for 15 years.

Jamie Flynn (30), of Athy, Co Kildare, was stopped at St John's Square, Portlaoise, on January 6, 2021, while more than 5km from his home. He told Portlaoise District Court that he had breached Covid-19 regulations to get a blanket for his horse. He pleaded guilty, and the judge said he would strike the case out if he paid €250 to the court poor box. The money was paid and the case was struck out, as reported in July 2024.
