James Meredith, a 20-year-old student of advertising and marketing who originally came from Zimbabwe, was stopped and searched by gardaí at Letterkenny Community Centre on 18 January 2025. He was found with €245 of cocaine when searched at Letterkenny Garda Station after his arrest, and he was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled drug, namely cocaine. He appeared at Letterkenny District Court, where he avoided a conviction but was ordered to pay a €500 donation to Donegal Hospice, which was paid into court.
