latest first- Co Mayo murder appeal set for January 2027 Murder · Co. Mayo
James Kilroy, a park ranger, is charged with murdering his wife Valerie French Kilroy, a 41-year-old occupational therapist and mother of three, at their home in Kilbree Lower, Westport, Co Mayo, between 13 and 14 June 2019. He was found naked in a field the following morning, detained under the Mental Health Act, and charged with murder, pleading not guilty by reason of insanity. After two trials collapsed, a jury at the Central Criminal Court unanimously convicted him in July 2024 and he was sentenced to mandatory life imprisonment. He was granted legal aid to appeal his conviction in October 2024, and the Court of Appeal fixed the appeal hearing for 19 January 2027.
