  James Kailedzi, a 31-year-old Malawian man who worked as a chef in a Dublin hotel, was found dead face down in his bed by friends the morning after an altercation in the Coppinger Row/South William Street area of Dublin 2 in the early hours of 24 March 2023. He had been socialising with Malawian friends when he became involved in an altercation with a group of men, suffered a head wound after falling to the ground, and managed to walk home before being found the next morning. Gardaí said he died from those head injuries and described the incident as a public order incident. Two men in their 20s and 30s were arrested and released without charge, and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions as the investigation continues.
