James Carpenter, a 31-year-old Irish man from Ardee, Co Louth, allegedly defrauded multiple people of rent deposits and festival ticket money in 2016 by advertising apartments in central Dublin and Electric Picnic tickets on social media and online classified sites. He was arrested on a European arrest warrant in April 2021, served a six-month sentence in Scotland, and was extradited to Ireland in October 2021. He pleaded guilty to inducing a woman out of €500 for Electric Picnic tickets and inducing multiple individuals out of money for rent and deposits. In July 2022, he was sentenced to two years for the accommodation fraud and six months for the ticket deception, running concurrently and backdated for time served.
