James Brophy, a 49-year-old man from Lough, Portarlington, is accused of possessing cocaine valued at over €13,000, allegedly €20,000, found in the console of his car at Botley Lane, Portarlington, on 11 October 2023. He was charged with possession of cocaine for sale or supply and first appeared at Portlaoise District Court in November 2023, where the case was adjourned for DPP directions. The case was remanded on bail through several adjournments in 2025, and in May 2025 a book of evidence containing three charges was served on him. The case was sent forward to Portlaoise Circuit Court on 18 June 2025.
