  On 28 October 2023, shortly after 3.10am, a man in his late 30s was seriously injured in an assault on Hyde Road in Limerick City, following reports of a disturbance involving a group of people. He was treated at the scene and taken to University Hospital Limerick, where his condition was understood to be stable. Gardaí appealed for witnesses and footage, and on 14 November it was reported that Jake McNamara (18) had been charged over the assault. On 15 November he appeared before Limerick District Court, was granted bail, and was remanded to 17 January for directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
