Jack Downey, 19, a man from Clonmel, Co Tipperary, died at Cork University Hospital on 5 August 2019 after taking ecstasy at the Indiependence music festival in Mitchelstown, Co Cork, on 2 August 2019. A group of six had bought over seven grams of ecstasy for €200, and Jack took additional doses after the initial one. His condition deteriorated and he was taken by ambulance to hospital. An inquest in Cork in March 2022, presided over by Coroner Philip Comyn, recorded a verdict of misadventure, and a file sent to the DPP resulted in no prosecution.
