Jacintha McSherry O'Connor, a 63-year-old woman from Donegal Town, was sentenced on 11 January 2024 to two and a half years in prison for indecently assaulting a 13-year-old male pupil in Dublin in 1985. The offences are alleged to have taken place in the boy's home while she, then a 24-year-old student teacher at a Dublin secondary school, was giving him English tutoring. A jury at the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court returned majority guilty verdicts on two counts of indecent assault in October 2023 after she pleaded not guilty. The complainant, now in his fifties, went to gardaí after his own children reached the age he had been at the time of the alleged offences. She was placed on the sex offenders register and under probation supervision for six months post-release.

Reports dated 17 October 2023 describe two different cases, and the case header merges them. Irish Times and Irish Mirror reports describe a man, 40, described as Irish, who has pleaded not guilty to three counts of engaging in sexual acts with a 16-year-old girl at locations in Dublin between August and December 2010, when he was 27. A separate Irish Times report describes Jacintha McSherry O'Connor (63) of The Mullins, Donegal Town, who has pleaded not guilty to two counts of indecently assaulting a 13-year-old boy at locations in Dublin between June 1 and September 1, 1985. In closing speeches on Tuesday 17 October 2023, prosecuting counsel called the man's account unbelievable, and the defence said it had objective, independent evidence. The latest reports say the jury has started deliberations, and the trial resumes on Wednesday.
