• Teacher's conviction for indecently assaulting pupil upheld on appeal Indecent assault

In 1985, when she was 24 and a student teacher, Jacinta McSherry O'Connor was giving grinds to a 13-year-old boy when she indecently assaulted him twice at his home, between June 1 and September 1, 1985. A Dublin Circuit Criminal Court jury convicted her on two counts by majority verdict in October 2023, and she does not accept the verdict. She was later sentenced to three years on each count with the final six months suspended, which one report describes as two and a half years in total. On 19 December 2024 the Court of Appeal dismissed her appeal against conviction, ruling that the evidence was admissible as evidence of grooming.
