A Lithuanian man, known as Igor Dmitrov and believed to be aged 34 (one report gave 38), died in January 2024 when a pipe bomb he had made detonated in his room at the Depaul homeless shelter on Little Britain Street in Dublin's north inner city. Gardaí ruled out an attack and suspect the man blew himself up while tinkering with homemade explosives, and a criminal investigation was launched by Bridewell Garda station. The man had arrived in Ireland in late 2006 on a fake passport and had a history of schizophrenia and substance abuse from age 13. In 2026, a coroner's inquest recorded a narrative verdict confirming the man's identity could not be established.
