Ibrahim Ahmed Gharib, a 48-year-old Egyptian man, was found guilty at the Central Criminal Court of raping and sexually assaulting Christina Foley, a 27-year-old woman who lived in a hostel for the homeless, in a builders' shed in Poolbeg Street, Dublin 2, on 9 or 10 February 2025. The pair met on O'Connell Street around midnight, consumed crack cocaine, and went to Oliver Bond flats to acquire further drugs before the incident. The victim was arrested while trying to report the offence at a garda station in a distressed state, and a semen DNA match was found for Gharib. Mr Justice Sean Gillane sentenced Gharib to 11 years, reducing a headline sentence of 12 years by one, backdated to 11 June 2025.
