Ian Gillen, a 60-year-old former garda, threatened to kill and assaulted his then-partner Jennifer Clinton at their home in Monkstown, Dublin, on 23 December 2021. He was arrested for coercive control and charged with false imprisonment, assault causing harm, and threatening to kill or cause serious harm. He was granted bail at Dublin District Court in November 2022. In July 2025, he pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court and was sentenced to four years' imprisonment with the final 28 months suspended on strict conditions.
