On 10 December 2021 at 1.45am, Ian Dunne, a 35-year-old man, was stopped on Main Street, Daingean, Offaly, while driving with no insurance or NCT. He had been disqualified from driving since 2 June 2021 and had two previous convictions for driving without insurance. He elected to produce documents at Tullamore Garda Station but failed to do so. At Tullamore Circuit Court on 30 December 2022, Judge Andrew Cody imposed a six-month sentence suspended for five years, an eight-year driving disqualification, and a €300 fine for driving without a licence. The judge warned that any further uninsured driving offence would result in an unsuspended custodial term.
