On 14 November 2019, Ian Connaghan, 34, and his brother Daniel Connaghan, 43, both of Cabra, Dublin, attacked Michael Mulvey, 55, a welder, on the Navan Road near the Halfway House Pub, and Mulvey died at his home 13 days later. The brothers were charged with murder and assault at the Central Criminal Court, where a jury in August 2023 found both not guilty of murder, Ian guilty of manslaughter, and Daniel guilty of intentionally or recklessly causing serious harm. In December 2023, Ian was sentenced to nine years' imprisonment with the final year suspended, and Daniel to five years with the final year suspended. The Court of Appeal dismissed Ian Connaghan's appeal against his sentence on 21 January 2025.
