  • Four remanded over public order offences at Ballyogan refugee centre Public order offences · Co. Dublin

Anti-refugee protesters impeded efforts to bring International Protection Applicants to a new centre on Ballyogan Road, Carrickmines, south Dublin, on 22 May 2024, during which a garda was injured and 13 people were arrested. Four men, Rodger Long (53), Jordan O'Donoghue (21), Conor Killian (25) and Ian Cahill (44), were charged under the Public Order Act with wilfully preventing the free passage of a person or vehicle and failing to comply with a garda's direction to leave. They appeared before Judge Deirdre Gearty at the Criminal Courts of Justice in Dublin on the evening of 22 May, made no reply to the charges, and were granted bail with conditions including staying away from protests in the Ballyogan area. All four were remanded to appear at Dún Laoghaire District Court on 19 June to enter pleas.
