A large group of people were involved in a fight at Hanlons Gala, Dublin Road, Longford, on 3 June 2019, connected to differences between the Longford McGinleys and McGinleys from Athlone over the 2015 murder of Bernard McGinley in Northern Ireland. Hugh Patrick McGinley, 21, of 5 Glack View, Longford, was the fifth person to plead guilty to violent disorder in the case. The matter was heard at Longford Circuit Criminal Court, where Judge Keenan Johnson imposed a one-year prison sentence suspended for five years and ordered McGinley to pay €2,000 to the garda charity Little Blue Heroes within six months.
