Two bodies were found dead in a bungalow at Mountain Stage, Glenbeigh, Co Kerry, on 4 February 2025. The victims were identified locally as Hazel Byrne, 51, and David, 52, and Gardaí believe they died from carbon monoxide poisoning in an apparent double suicide, possibly as far back as late 2024. Locals who had not seen the couple in several months found a notice on the door warning of carbon monoxide and raised the alarm, after which firefighters wearing breathing apparatus located the bodies in a bedroom. The scene has been preserved for a Garda Technical Bureau examination, and postmortems are pending at University Hospital Kerry.
