latest first- Armed robbery of German princess at Dalkey under investigation Robbery (armed) · Co. Dublin
Masked men with machine guns tied up Princess Christa von Preussen, a German woman and great-granddaughter of Kaiser Wilhelm II, and other guests at Monte Alverno, Dalkey, on 28 June 1978, stealing gold chains, necklaces, brooches, bracelets, diamonds and sapphires. The princess valued her stolen jewellery at 38,195 Deutsche Marks, while items belonging to Hanns were valued at 3,900 Deutsche Marks. The IRA was thought to be involved, and the Irish consul general in Bavaria wrote to President Hillery in November 1978 seeking help with the insurance claim.
