Hannah McQuinn, a woman from Kilkenny, used her elderly grandparents' ATM card to withdraw more than €12,000 at ATMs in Kilkenny and Waterford over seven months in 2019 and stole their cheque book to lodge cheques to her own account. She was convicted of theft and deception at Kilkenny Circuit Court in May 2022 and given a one-year suspended sentence on conditions including full repayment. In August 2024, after repaying only €1,000 and failing to meet probation conditions, she was brought before the court on a bench warrant. The judge reactivated eight of the 12 months of her original sentence, sending her to prison.
