  Guntars Platnieks of Coolnaleen, Slieverue, was stopped at a mandatory checkpoint at Raheen, Glenmore, Co Kilkenny, at 11.55pm on February 26, 2023, while driving to buy milk for his child. A breath test at the garda station showed 102mcg of alcohol per 100mls of breath. He was convicted at Kilkenny District Court, where Judge Geraldine Carthy described his alcohol level as staggering, and he pleaded guilty to drink driving, driving without insurance and failing to produce insurance. He received a four-month suspended prison sentence and a three-year driving disqualification for drink driving, and a €400 fine and four-year disqualification for driving without insurance, as reported in October 2023.
