latest first- Convicted murderer in High Court challenge over parole, Limerick Murder · Co. Limerick
Paulo Nascimento, a 46-year-old Portuguese man, pleaded guilty in 2003 to shooting Grainne Dillon, a 24-year-old woman, three times with a shotgun at Jury's Inn Hotel, Steamboat Quay, Limerick, on 5 January 2002, after robbing €3,000 from the hotel. He was sentenced to life at the Central Criminal Court. In early 2021, a parole board recommended his temporary release, stating the risk of re-offending was as low as it can get and keeping him in custody was no longer productive. Nascimento has now brought a High Court challenge over the Minister for Justice's refusal to consider his entitlement to temporary release, with the matter set to return before the court in October 2022.
