Gordon Black, a 73-year-old former Boys' Brigade leader from Arklow, Co Wicklow, pleaded guilty at Wicklow Circuit Criminal Court to four counts of indecent assault on a younger brother between 1977 and 1982 and a separate charge of indecent assault on the older brother between 1978 and 1980. The two brothers, now aged 55 and 59, contacted gardaí in January 2020 after reading an online news report about Black, who had received a suspended two-year sentence at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court that month for indecently assaulting a young boy in the 1960s. Black, a retired van salesman and widower, confessed when questioned by gardaí and revealed he had been abused as a child. Judge Patrick Quinn sentenced Black to five years in prison, suspending the final two years on condition of no unauthorised contact with anyone under 18, and placed him on the sex offender register.
