latest first- Youth convicted of murdering friend Glen Osborne seeks re-sentencing at Court of Appeal Murder · Co. Dublin
On 15 April 2020 a youth who was 16 at the time stabbed his friend Glen "Ossie" Osborne, a 20-year-old man, once in the chest at Ballybough House, Ballybough, Dublin, and Mr Osborne died from the wound. The youth, now 22 and unnamed because he was a minor when the offence occurred, pleaded guilty to murder in August 2020, and on 16 December 2020 Mr Justice Paul McDermott at the Central Criminal Court sentenced him to life with review after ten years. While in prison he received a five-month sentence in January 2023 for assaulting a female prison officer at Mountjoy and a six-month sentence in May 2024 for heroin offences. After a Supreme Court ruling that life sentences for children convicted of murder should be imposed only in exceptional cases, the original sentence was quashed and the case was sent back to the Court of Appeal, which heard the re-sentencing on 21 April 2026 and reserved judgment.
