  • Brady's perverting the course of justice sentence increased in Louth Perverting the course of justice · Co. Louth

Aaron Brady, 35, from Crossmaglen, Co Armagh, was convicted in August 2020 of murdering Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe during a robbery at Lordship Credit Union, Bellurgan, Co Louth, on 25 January 2013, and sentenced to life imprisonment with a 40-year minimum. During his 2020 murder trial, Brady recorded a Garda interview with witness Ronan Flynn and posted it on social media, and conspired with Dean Byrne, 33, from Dublin, to persuade prosecution witness Daniel Cahill not to give evidence. Brady pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice at the Special Criminal Court in April 2024 and was sentenced to three years in July 2024, while Byrne was convicted of the conspiracy and sentenced to two years. In July 2026, the Court of Appeal increased Brady's sentence to five years, finding the original three-year term too lenient and failing to give sufficient weight to general deterrence.
