latest first- Longford man jailed for 12 months over garda assault and theft Assault on a garda; theft; criminal damage; intoxication in a public place · Co. Longford
Eugene Dunne, a 39-year-old man from Longford, pleaded guilty to 23 charges covering offences from 2022 to 2024, including assaulting Garda Glen Flanagan at Longford Garda Station in March 2024 and causing €2,731.88 worth of damage to a car at Market Square in August 2023. He was remanded in custody at Longford District Court in May 2024 while disclosure was outstanding on new charges, including an attempted unauthorised transaction on a stolen Revolut card. Judge Vincent Deane sentenced him to 12 months in prison, with three consecutive four-month terms for the garda assault, theft of a concrete cutter, and a property theft in Mollaghan's car park. The judge recommended the sentence be served at Cloverhill so Dunne can continue education and drug treatment programmes.
