Gilson Da Costa Santos, a 25-year-old Brazilian national, was stopped at Dublin Airport on 7 May 2025 after suspected cocaine was found in his suitcase. Later analysis confirmed 2.85 kg of cocaine with a street value just below €200,000. He admitted importing the cocaine, and the court accepted that he was acting under threat at the time. He entered signed guilty pleas at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court and was sentenced to four years in prison, backdated to May 2025, as reported on 11 November 2025.
